In Dauntless, Dull Arcstones are needed to upgrade every type of gear above +5 enhancement level. This makes them an essential part of the game, regardless of the weapon and armor path you take. At the moment there are only two ways to get dull arcstones. By slaying Dire Behemoths and by completing Dire Patrols.
The Dire Behemoths
Whenever you break a part of a dire behemoth, there is a chance that a few dull arcstones will drop. The following are considered to be dire behemoths:
- Neutral
- Moonreaver Shrike
- Ragetail Gnasher
- Deadeye Quillshot
- Blaze
- Bloodfire Embermane
- Firebrand Charrogg
- Frost
- Dreadfrost Boreus
- Frostback Pangar
- Winterhorn Skraev
- Shock
- Shockjaw Nayzaga
- Thunderdeep Drask
- Terra
- Koshai
- Razorwing Kharabak
- Rockfall Skarn
- Radiant
- Valomyr
- Umbral
- Riftstalker
To hunt dire behemoths you can either select a specific behemoth through a pursuit or you can hunt a random dire behemoth by going on a dire patrol. If you are still getting materials to create weapons and armor by breaking parts from a regular behemoth a clever way would be to focus on the dire behemoth of the same type.
This should give you some dull arcstones in addition to the raw materials needed to make the behemoths weapons and armor. It will also, hopefully, get you the rare materials needed in addition to the dull arcstones to enhance above +5 enhancement level. However, if you just need dull arcstones and nothing else then you should only do dire patrols to get them.
Dire Patrols
The reason dire patrols are so great is that you get 10 dull arcstones for each dire patrol you complete. This makes it the fastest way to farm dull arcstones. As with regular patrols, to unlock dire patrols you need to work on your masteries and slayer level, in addition to completing a series of quests. Just work on completing all the quests Katerin gives you and you will get access to dire patrols soon enough.
Farming Dull Arcstones With the Daily Orb Bonus
Every day you can get a bonus of 10 orbs for each completed patrol, twice. So if you are farming a specific orb type be sure that the first two patrols of the day are of the same elemental type as the orbs you are trying to farm.
Should you miss out on the daily patrol bonus it accumulates up to six bonuses for a single day. But if you miss more than three days on patrol bonuses, the rest is lost.
